I have meditated for the first time after a very long time just now. While doing my practice, I was able to see a light coming over me and it surrounded me with love and warmth. I was so overwhelmed by the light that I had to open my eyes as it was blinding me. As I awake, i just felt an overwhelming feeling of love. I tried writing something down to see if there’s a message my spirit guide is telling me. True enough I received a message of love and a validation to trust my instincts to guide me to where I want to be.

As you spend time practicing mindfulness, you’ll probably find yourself feeling kinder, calmer, and more patient. These shifts in your experience are likely to generate changes in other parts of your life as well.

When you’re simply aware of whatever occurs in the mind without following after it, and practice bringing your mind back to the present moment whenever you feel distracted, your mind will naturally calm down.   Your thoughts give up in a sense when you don’t pay too much attention to them.  Gradually, you start to feel more space between you and the thoughts.  You feel more relaxed, whether there’s a thought arising or your mind is empty for a moment.

If you suspect that you’ve depression, seek proper medical advice first instead of trying to fix it on your own by learning how to meditate from a book or CD. Because you’re paying attention, you will notice when an unhappy pattern tries to take over.  Instead of blindly following it, you now have a choice.  Every time you don’t respond in your habitual way, you gradually free yourself from unwise patterns.  Eventually, they melt away and you feel calmer, clearer, and more centered. But most importantly, meditation puts you in touch with your true nature, whatever you might call it – spirit, soul, or consciousness.  When you begin to identify with your essence instead of all the thoughts and emotions, you will know peace, compassion, and true freedom. Although we can have a variety of wonderful experiences when we meditate, including feelings of bliss and oneness, these aren’t the purpose of the practice. The real benefits of meditation are what happens in the other hours of the day when we’re going about our daily lives. When we emerge from our meditation session, we carry some of the stillness and silence of our practice with us, allowing us to be more creative, compassionate, centered, and loving to ourselves and everyone we encounter. The benefits of meditation don’t take very long to manifest. Most beginners who started meditation for the first time reported feeling much calmer and feeling less stress after just 15 mins of practice! Depending on your goals for meditating, other benefits may take longer time to take hold. Not because there’s something wrong with the practice itself, but because established, deep-rooted bad habits (like hot temper) take more time, mindfulness as well as efforts, to eradicate. Hi Mandy, there is no such thing as a strange question. If you’re worried about unwelcome spirit intruding into your space while you’re meditating, you could start off your meditation by first asking for protection from Jesus Christ or your guardian angel, if there is one that you are particularly close to. Spend some time visualizing a globe of pure white light slowly descending on you and enveloping you in dazzling radiance. Feel its warmth, protection and gentle loving-kindness. When the image is steady in your mind, proceed with your meditation in this sphere of light. When you are done with your meditation, thank God or the angel that offered you the protection and visualize it going back to where it came from. It will probably take a few practices before the visualization becomes clear and unwavering. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you didn’t get a clear picture the first time around. Where I live, I can hear the constant buzzing from the traffic outside. But I’m so used to it that it has failed to distract or irritate me anymore. I suspect it might be the same for you. However, I’m not sure because I am not you. Why don’t you give it a try and let me know how it turns out for you? Thank you so much for these helpful tips! I tried meditating for twenty minutes (for the first time), as you suggest, and, although I have to work on focusing, I actually felt more relaxed than I have in a long time! I plan to continue and improve daily. Best wishes! Deepak Chopra Meditation – which will lead to disaster. Do not you want to be only spiritual, because it also leads to destruction. It can happen in a balanced stage we can not attain this stage forcely. "Sitting is best. If you’re lying down you might fall asleep, which means you need sleep anyway," Chopra said. Hello, I am thinking of starting lucid dreaming again that I had practiced in the past. But I am thinking of trying WILD (Wake induced lucid dreams). I have tried this in the past and slipped into sleep paralysis, it is quite a scary thing… Anyway I was wondering if just after waking up for 20-30 at the target time, and meditate for the time period just before attempting WILD, would it be a good idea to relax and ease the mind for this process. In addition, while meditating can you focus on a thought or thoughts, in order to be successful with WILD you must think about cues to show when you are dreaming to trigger lucidity. Chopra says that meditation can have profound benefits for any person, depending on what they need. “If they’re very stressed, it’s a good way to deal with stress. It has immediate effects in terms of better sleep and more energy,” he said. “As you get more into meditation, you realize that there are hundreds of variations of meditation depending on what you’re wanting to achieve.”

Chakras are energetic wheels found throughout the entire body. You have seven main energy centers along the central nervous system, or spine. These chakras correlate to physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological aspects mirrored in every area of our lives. This meditation will dive into each of the chakras to unlock, inform and reveal their power to spread energy, throughout the entire body. The purpose of this meditation is to reveal where you may feel blocked in order to unleash your fullest potential. No experience required.

There’s no hard and fast rule on this. most important is to make them aware of the value of meditation through your example and then look for their receptiveness. Some children may be ready for meditation as early as eight or ten years of age. Other kids, even those growing up in homes where both parents meditate, may not feel drawn to meditating themselves until they are in their late teens. It’s important that kids don’t feel pressured to meditate because their parents want them to. The best indication that they are ready to start meditating is when they express their own curiosity and desire to learn.

Finally, come back to your heart, and in one minute or so say again those four words: Peace. Harmony. Laughter. Love. Remember those are the goals of all the other goals in our life, whatever we want, ultimately that’s what we want. So repeat: Peace. Harmony. Laughter. Love.

Thank you for your comment, it is true that many people do the mistake of associating meditation with concentration which is definitely not the same thing. These people are being mislead unfortunately and try for years to enter into meditation.

When we write our intentions down prior to meditation, how important is it to formulate them in a specific way? Some say it’s important not to write “I want” because that is a statement of lack. Others say to write intentions in a positive, affirmative way. What is most effective?

Hey Gabby, how do you recommend letting go of fears in relation to grieving the loss of a loved one? I have a lot of anger built up towards my step dad surrounding my mums passing and feel like I don’t want to forgive.. Do you have to fully forgive to fully experience love?

Now that is a simple technique.  And I can tell you from personal practice, that if you really spend time with those 4 words… and really put your heart into them…. you WILL bring peace, harmony, laughter and love into you life in greater and greater amounts.

Fourth tip: Another way to boost your meditation practice is to meditate with others. If there is a local group you can meditate with, I highly recommend it. Meditating with other people is powerful. It can give you access to deeper states of focus and relaxation.

When you become aware you are no longer thinking the mantra or noticing your breath, that is your indication to gently return your attention to the process and start the cycle over again. If you maintain an easy frame of mind as you lose the mantra and then return to it, then you are meditating correctly. Whatever that meditation process brings you is governed by the intelligence of the cosmos and is exactly what you need at that time.

Once I signed on, they gave me my mantra — the sound-with-no-meaning that one repeats, silently during a 20-minute meditation session. Through periodic check-ins and TM group gatherings, Carol and Paul have kept me on track with my practice.

Life in modern society is complex and often tension filled. Hour by hour, day by day, the autonomic nervous system is mobilized (Sympathetic Dominance) to help us deal with the interpersonal and impersonal stresses we encounter. Through the practice of meditation and Yoga we can reverse the autonomic mobilization (Sympathetic Dominance to Parasympathetic Dominance). Meditative calm involves changes in the central nervous system and in blood chemistry, as well as in the autonomic nervous system (Parasympathetic Dominance). Since meditation and Yoga are learned, their protracted practices reduce heart rates and breathing rates. EEG pattern changes indicative of relaxation. The consumption of oxygen by the body decreases. The resistance of the skin to the passage of a weak electric current rises (a sign of relaxation) and the blood flow in the interior of the body like intestine, stomach increases. The level of lactic acid in the blood drops significantly. Since lactic acid in the blood tied to anxiety. It is low during meditation. These were measured physiologically during transcendental meditation. (Wallace and Benson 1972)

Ok, so you know that meditation has dozens of benefits, and everybody is doing it. You look for information online or on a bookstore, and see that there are a LOT of different ways of doing meditation, dozens of meditation techniques, and some conflicting information. You wonder which way is best for you.

The cognitive skills of thinking, perception and analysis, synthesis, and reasoning are intelligence quotient (IQ). Emotional quotient (EQ) is the ability to understand the feelings and needs of one-self and others, to display self-control and self-confidence and the skills to respond to others’ feelings and in appropriate ways. Hi my question is if i cant find free quiet time to meditate is it still worth me doing it if only 2-3 nights a week? I really struggle to commit to anything, except my son. Between my son, my partner and step kids i have little free time. I understand that 20 min is all i need however i don’t have much time in the house on my own, i am always half listening for kids even when they with dad. Now my partner will be working 2 nights a week and i am son will sleep a few hrs straight, this is the space for me to it. Iv read that u cant go into a deep meditation if u know u might be interrupted. I have more reasons to meditate than i could right, is there any point starting if i wont be able to really get into it and its not frequent, is there any benefit?

“Most people come to meditation because they need it,” Schwartz, who calls herself a spiritual entrepreneur, said one morning before a meditation. In her case, her mother-in-law suggested she give it a try as a way to cope with her busy life as a fashion editor and mother of three.

Hi Kenzie, Thanks for dropping by! Interestingly, although meditation involves only a few simple steps, every person experiences it in his or her own unique ways. Yes, like you, I’ve heard of similar accounts which you’ve mentioned. I also know of some people who have these types of meditation experiences. While I can’t speak of those which you’ve heard, I can’t find any reason not to believe the accounts from those whom I’ve met personally. Their experiences were vivid and real, and some of them were relatively new to meditation.

Just as music has a powerful sway over our emotions and outer energy, it also has the capacity to inspire our deep meditations. Listening to music that was composed and performed in a high state of consciousness gives us the opportunity to aspire to that state as…

Hi! I’m Kenzie! I want to learn how to meditate. I want to be spiritual and I have heard that some people have felt something warm there soul during meditation. I’ve also heard that some people foresee the future or feel like they are in the presence of God. Is it true? I know how people can be gullible and not know it. Such as your meditating teacher tells you that you will feel like your closer to God during this experience. Then most people believe that this will happen and they set their body that this is going to happen. When the session starts they believe they felt something. Maybe they did maybe they didn’t. But are these true experiences? Thank you and hope to hear back!

It has nothing to do with pushing morals. It’s about your nervous system. You can train your brain like a muscle to be more resilient to physical and emotional distress within your body and mind through meditation. There are other benefits that extend to people beyond ourselves, but in relation to our own physical and psychological health the benefits of meditation are a scientifically proven fact.

This is my first time trying to meditate on my own. I’ve been dying to do it– Because I’ve heard it provides you with a more balanced life. Start your day with a meditative moment through my Spirit Junkie app. The idea is simple but powerful. Each morning when your phone alarm rings, an affirmation pops up. While you’re still cozy in bed, clear your mind and meditate on the message, allowing it to sink in and soak your soul. Then start your day with a positive, confident attitude.

Concentration – Gently close your eyes and begin observing your breath. Use the counting technique to help you develop your concentration. This will help keep your mind from wandering so easily. During your meditation, count your breaths 1 through 5 silently in your mind. When you get to 5, simply start over again. Keep your attention focused on the air passing through the tip of your nose. When a distraction arises, simply ignore it and immediately bring your attention back to your breath.

Hello, I just read the simple instructions and I was able to start meditating. Thank you so much. I’m 37 and I feel like 60. My body aches, I’m anxious and my thoughts are negative all the time. Doctor prescribed Lexapro but I refuse to take medications because I believe that is all in my mind. Thanks again I will continue practicing my migraine headache went away.

I’ve bundled a few of the most recent thoughts-body research blended with spirituality to help you fully grasp the strength of your brain. With this study course you’ll master: The fascinating science that proves why intellect-human body medication is so highly effective.

I’m here for a 45-minute class called Inner Peace, which promises to teach me the basics of deep mindfulness, making me calmer, more productive, more focused, and more joyful. After passing through the gift shop, which peddles crystals, aromatherapy eye pillows, and Bad Spirit Remover candles, I settle into a black faux-leather floor seat. Violet lights beam down on a couple of dozen people, from spandexed millennials to graying businessmen. It’s like a yoga studio without the yoga.

Meditation could help to improve concentration, but it’s not a quick fix. You can’t meditate today and expect to see a boost in focus level at the end of the week. The gain would most likely be too subtle to make a discernible difference. Generally, you’ll need at least a month or more, assuming a daily practice. How fast you see results really depends on several factors, such as how often you practice, the quality of each session and your current level of focus. Having said that, it’s possible to observe a quicker transformation in terms of stress level with meditation. Just a session of meditation is often enough to bring stress level down, even if you’ve wandered many times during your meditation. I guess what I’m trying to say is: be patient, put your worries aside and meditate with one mind each day, without fail. If you do just that, you’ll surely see the results you want one day. All the best!

19. Learning to meditate takes time. Most of us have a long-held bad habit of thinking too.  That means our brain is hardwired to fire off thoughts, and these thoughts give birth to a habitual pattern of well-worn emotional responses.

I often feel very lightheaded and dizzy for no medical reason, have done since by teens and now 30. Kinda out of body-ish, but not in a nice sort of way. What kundalini kryia would you recommend or anything else that you think would help. Thanks x

Deepak Chopra Meditation – You are here in the quiet mind, and everything will be much more pronounced in terms of awareness, and now allow intuition to thrive through your mind to the brain. It allows the brain to develop into what many would say is the next step in the evolution of the brain, because it is related to the mind. And that intuition is to promote the noise out.

While meditating, the person practicing TM sits in a comfortable position with eyes closed and silently repeats a mantra. A mantra is a word or sound from the Vedic tradition that is used to focus your concentration.

Thinking is the natural activity of the mind.  Meditation is not about stopping your thoughts.  Meditation is simply a process of resting the mind in its natural sate, which is open to and naturally aware of thoughts, emotions, and sensations as they occur. – Mingyur Rinpoche

Hi Jim, Thank you very much for leaving a comment. I’m glad that you find this meditation guide useful. Different individuals meditate for various reasons. For example, some people meditate to promote mindfulness, some meditate to relax more and stress less, while others meditate to gain spiritual enlightenment. Hence, different meditation techniques were born to achieve the specific aims practitioners have in mind.

Don’t expect obvious Buddha vibes courtesy of religious iconography and yogi-style chanting. After walking through a bamboo courtyard—complete with giant waterfall—Unplug’s customers will find themselves in a dimly-lit white studio with simple floor-cushions. There, they practice the basics of meditation: breathing deeply in silence, focusing on said breathing and letting go of inner thoughts.

I am very new to meditation. It is already helping my insomnia and I have slept as though I have taken a sleep aid. I will be looking for a meditation center or a meditation mentor as I want to make sure I’m doing it correctly as sometimes it is really hard to actually “wake up”.

cultivating a meditation practice will help you tune into what is truthful for you. i suggest giving yourself 30-40 days of silent contemplation. Allow your intuitive voice to come forward and let your logical voice take the back seat. true purpose and direction comes through stillness.

Meditation is a process of giving your full attention to whatever object you have chosen. In this case you are choosing to be aware of the breath. Allow yourself to experience your breathing in an open and accepting way. Do not judge or attempt to control or change it. Open yourself so fully that eventually there is no distinction between you and the breathing. In this process many thoughts will arise in your mind: “Am I doing this right? When will this be over? Perhaps I should have closed the window. I forgot to make an important call. My neck hurts.” Hundreds of thoughts may come before you and each thought will call forth some further response: a judgment, an action, an interest in pursuing the thought further, an attempt to get rid of the thought.

Meditation is very simple. It is simply attending. You can begin by attending to your breath, and then if a thought comes, attend to it, notice it, be open to it—and it will pass. Then you can come back to the breath. Your normal response is to react to all your thoughts, and this keeps you ever busy in a sea of confusion. Meditation teaches you to attend to what is taking place within without reacting, and this makes all the difference. It brings you freedom from the mind and its meandering. And in this freedom you begin to experience who you are, distinct from your mental turmoil. You experience inner joy and contentment, you experience relief and inner relaxation, and you find a respite from the tumult of your life. You have given yourself an inner vacation.

Numerous studies show how meditation is associated with improvement in a variety of psychological areas, including stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, eating disorders, and cognitive function. There’s also research that suggests meditation can reduce blood pressure, pain response, stress hormone levels, and even cellular aging. It can be incredibly challenging to adhere to the practices that lead us to live a life of vitality and longevity, even when we’re familiar with the research on the benefits of daily meditation.

Thank you, Rosa. I’m glad that you find the article useful. Yes, I understand that sometimes, life can be so hectic that it seems impossible to find the time to During times like this, try exercising your creativity and find pockets of time in between places or activities to catch some deep breaths or have a quick meditation. I hope meditation will help you to restore balance in your life. Take care!

Gabby, I really want to thank you for sharing so much information with no strings attached. This post, in particular, is so useful to me at this moment as I didn’t know where to begin, but have wanted so much to start a meditation practice. I’ve had the same thought in the past when you have shared other instructional resources as a gift, rather than a product for a price. It is sincerely appreciated. You truly are awesome. Thank you!

Anyone here thinks that the purpose of meditation is to deal with worry, to tune out, for getting away from all of it. Whilst which is partially legitimate, the real objective of meditation is really to tune in, not to obtain away from all of it, to obtain in touch with it all.

The Esalen Institute is set on 120 acres of the Big Sur coast, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and once played host to creative minds like Joan Baez and Susan Sontag. The first time I ever took part in meditation it was not mindfulness based meditation as much as chi gong/tai chi meditation. It made me feel dissociated and confused, I began to disconnect from my body. It has been shown in studies that our brains will connect us with our bodies to reduce dissociation if we partake in MINDFULNESS meditation rather then imagery based meditation. Mindfulness meditation focuses on the reality of the present moment rather then imagining something that is not quite there. In yoga meditation your often meditate on something you wish to embody, such as a lotus. Although this is likely great for someone with depression or a jaded life view, I would assume it would not improve self control and help an individual come to realizations. Meditation is as simple as following your breath in and out, and if your brain begins to float away from you come right back to following your breath. This process can actually train your brain and change the way it functions to increase attention and lead to more careful decisions. There are actually plenty of studies on exactly what you are inquiring about, I urge you to look up the Niroga institute in Berkeley CA, you will find the information your are looking for and much more.

Hi Jazmine, it’s normal to recall episodes from the past when you’re meditating. Just observe them mindfully without trying to run away or hide from them. If you keep at it, you’ll realize that like other thoughts you’ve, they will fade away by themselves without you doing anything to them. Cheers!

Mindfulness meditation can be done in the traditional seated position—as well as through mindful action such as walking, eating and talking. Ultimately, mindfulness becomes a natural part of our being. The key is presence. Letting go of the past and the future; focusing on the present moment at hand, even if that moment is loud and in public.

How do you get out of that state?  Alert yourself, straighten your back, breathe the stale air out of our lungs, and direct your awareness into the clear space to freshen your mind.  If you remain in this stagnant state, you will not evolve, so whenever this setback arises, clear it again and again.  It is important to be as watchful as possible, and to stay as vigilant as you can.

Beginning a mindfulness practice is trial and error.  The goal is to be in stillness, experience your feelings and allow something to shift. A mindfulness practice is a very private and personal experience that you and only you can cultivate and fine tune.  Take these suggestions and give them a try, feeling free to take what you like and leave the rest.  May you be open and willing to make positive changes in your life.

Interestingly, anecdotal evidence suggests that long-term expert meditators need significantly less sleep. In fact, according to some Buddhist texts, a full night’s sleep totals approximately four hours among proficient meditators. Studies outside of a retreat context also support this idea (although findings are a bit less profound). One that involved long-term meditators and using traditional laboratory sleep studies showed an average of 30 minutes less sleep needed per night.

Here are some types of meditation practiced in Yoga. The most common and universal Yoga meditation one is the “third eye meditation”. Other popular ones involve concentrating on a chakra, repeating a mantra, visualization of light, or gazing meditations.

Not to just de-strain, but to notice that peace inside, the peace that spiritual traditions look at that passes all knowledge. Bringing greater awareness to our voice and verbal communication is essential. Try going one full day without saying anything—good or bad—about anyone who is not in your physical presence. It’s hard. You might not be able to do it on the first try. This practice makes us much more aware of our tendency to talk about others behind their backs.

A TM teacher presents general information about the technique and its effects during a 60-minute introductory lecture. That’s followed by a second 45-minute lecture in which more specific information is given. People interested in learning the technique then attend a 10- to 15-minute interview and 1 to 2 hours of personal instruction. Following a brief ceremony, they’re each given mantra, which they’re supposed to keep confidential.

Breath-awareness meditation is a simple practice of finding a comfortable seat, closing your eyes, and placing your attention in the inhalation and exhalation of your breath. I also have 2 children that are very young (they are definitely future little yogi’s!) and while I always try to meditate when they are in bed or being quiet, sometimes I just NEED to meditate for a few minutes while they are awake and running around. Do you have any advice for getting “in the zone” with lots of interruptions and distractions?

You’re right, The Course does use lots of Christian and also predominantly male terminology (Son of God etc). I would not get too put off by the terminology as the message is a good one. Think of ‘Primal Energy’, ‘Spirit’, ‘true essence’ or just pure LOVE when they use the word God if it helps. Jesus just being a means of showing how that ‘spirit’ can manifest in a human who is free from ego….like other spiritual humans (Buddha for example).

Life doesn’t have to be that way; you can “unplug” from the “autopilot” mode that your mind seems to be in always so that you can start enjoying life as it unfolds without getting too attached to any particular occurrence to the extent that you miss the next moment. So, how can you achieve this? Well, meditation is the key to living this kind of life. This book will help you live the life that you’ve always wanted but you seem to be constantly missing it because your mind is always on “auto” mode.

Be wary of any organization asking you for large amounts of money upfront to learn meditation. There are many people who enjoy the benefits of meditation and will be more than happy to help you for free.

Truth:  The benefits of meditation are both immediate and long-term. You can begin to experience benefits the first time you sit down to meditate and in the first few days of daily practice. Many scientific studies provide evidence that meditation has profound effects on the mind-body physiology within just weeks of practice. For example, a landmark study led by Harvard University and  Massachusetts General Hospital found that as little as eight weeks of meditation not only helped people experience decreased anxiety and greater feelings of calm; it also produced growth in the areas of the brain associated with memory, empathy, sense of self, and stress regulation.

You can also search for Transcendental Meditation houses all over the country or look for an MBSR class in your area. This is the gold-standard in mindfulness meditation teaching and is typically an eight-week course. When you learn meditation in a class, you have an instructor to help guide you along the way. You can also benefit from hearing the group’s questions asked out loud.

Place all your attention in the “lower dantien”, which is the center of gravity of the body, inches below the navel. This will help accumulate and root the qi (vital energy). Where your mind and intention is, there will be your qi. So, by focusing on the dantien, you are gathering energy in this natural reservoir.

[10] Try out setting apart two three minute intervals on a daily basis to observe your respiration. You can do this at your desk. Simply put aside your function for 3 minutes and permit your self to focus thoroughly on respiration.

So far as Podcasts, some of the fellas within the League have a person named How Did This Get Created they usually enjoy awesomely terrible flicks (Mortal Kombat, Deep Blue Sea, et c.) and just examine how undesirable the Film is for around one hour. Why do these athletes danger almost everything to reach a location humans are basically not intended to go? How come they place their life and also the lives of Many others at stake to be able to fulfill some undefinable need?

Your mind will get distracted into going along with sounds, sensations, and thoughts. Whenever that happens, gently recognize that you have been distracted, and bring the attention back to the breathing, or to the objective noticing of that thought or sensation. There is a big different between being inside the thought/sensation, and simply being aware of it’s presence.

“Are the physiologic changes associated with meditation the same as those found in sleep, another hypometabolic state? There is little resemblance … Meditation is therefore not a form of sleep; nor can it be used as a substitute for sleep. Meditation evokes some of the physiologic changes that are found in sleep, but the two are not in a any way interchangeable, nor is one a substitute for the other.”

Hey Gabby, how do you recommend letting go of fears in relation to grieving the loss of a loved one? I have a lot of anger built up towards my step dad surrounding my mums passing and feel like I don’t want to forgive.. Do you have to fully forgive to fully experience love?

In meditation, any attempt to quiet the mind using force won’t work. The everyday mind is full of thoughts, feelings, sensations, worries, daydreams, and fantasies. But at a deeper level, the mind begins in silence. Finding that level deeper than thought the essence of meditation.

Beginning meditators often express frustration because they’re not able to remain undistracted for very long.  At this stage of the practice, what’s important isn’t how long you can stay undistracted, but how often you realize you’re distracted and bring your mind back.

Tantra — unlike the popular view in the West, most Tantra practices have nothing to do with ritualized sex (this was practiced by a minority of lineages. Tantra is a very rich tradition, with dozens of different contemplative practices. The text Vijnanabhairava Tantra, for instance, lists 108 “meditations”, most of them more advanced (already requiring a certain degree of stillness and mind control).
